Leicester vs Stoke prediction
Having suffered elimination in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, Leicester City will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Stoke City at their King Power Stadium on day 23 of the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign.
Foxes hanging on
Even though many people expected that Leicester City would be slipping down the standings week by week, the Foxes still sit in second place in the Premier League standings. Claudio Ranieri’s men are on a four-match unbeaten run in the national championship and they were more than unfortunate not to pick up all three points from Saturday’s game against Leicester City. Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty to double Leicester’s lead and, as expected, the Villans eventually scored the equalizing goal. On the other hand, the Foxes suffered elimination in the FA Cup in midweek, with the team losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the replay, meaning that they will be fully focused on the Premier League in the remainder of the season. Jamie Vardy does not seem to be at the top of his game, but the opposition defenders could find it hard to contain the team’s top scorer on Saturday.
Jeffrey Schlupp remains in the treatment room, but coach Claudio Ranieri has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game. Jamie Vardy is likely to return to the starting line-up after he started the FA Cup game from the bench. Riyad Mahrez returns as well.
Fine form
Following back-to-back wins over Doncaster Rovers and Norwich City Stoke City shared the spoils with Arsenal at the weekend and it has to be noted that the Potters missed several clear-cut opportunities to score the winning goal. Anyhow, Mark Hughes is doing a great job with the Britannia Stadium outfit and, as a result, his men sit in seventh place in the standings ahead of the trip to Leicester. Stoke City face a tough fixtures list in days to come as they will play no less than four games on the road, meaning that they will have to be at their sharpest if they are to stay in the top half of the table. Marko Arnautovic is enjoying a very successful season and the Austrian winger will be one of the men to watch in the away side. The Potters are not regarded as good travelers, but this season they have already registered four wins on the road.
Xherdan Shaqiri is a major doubt and he faces the race against clock to be fit, while Shay Given remains in the recovery room. Geoff Cameroon is doubtful as well.
Quick Facts
- Leicester City are on a six-game unbeaten run at home
- Foxes failed to score in previous two home games in EPL
- Leicester came from two goals behind to share the spoils with Stoke in the reverse fixture
- Stoke City scored five goals in last two away fixtures in the league
- Potters suffered only one loss in previous five league games
Leicester vs Stoke betting tip
Leicester City are eager to stay in the race for a place in the Champions League and seeing that Claudio Ranieri rested his first-team regulars against Tottenham, there is every chance he will field the best possible side this time out. The Foxes are a real force to be reckoned with at home and I believe that they are capable of scoring in Saturday’s Premier League game. On the other hand, Mark Hughes’ men have been creating a number of clear-cut chances to score in recent games and, taking everything into account, both teams to score bet should be considered.
Tip: Both teams to score
