Everton vs Swansea City prediction

Having dropped two points in a 3-3 draw with Chelsea at the weekend, Everton will be looking to record their first league win of the new year when they host Swansea City at their Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. The Swans escaped the relegation zone thanks to a win over Watford, but the Toffees will definitely pose a much bigger threat for the relegation strugglers than their previous rivals.

Three consecutive draws

Everton produced a very good performance against Chelsea at the weekend and they were on the verge of beating Guus Hiddink’s men at Stamford Bridge. However, John Terry scored a late equalizer for the hosts and eventually spoiled Everton’s party in London. As a result, Roberto Martinez’s men dropped to 11th place in the Premier League standings, but a win over Swansea City could see them climb to 8th position in the table. Romelu Lukaku failed to score in the 3-3 draw with Chelsea, but the Belgian attacker is in form of his life and the opposition defenders should find it hard to contain the former Chelsea man. Everton are eyeing a place in European competitions, meaning that this should go down as must-win game for the Toffees.

Tyias Browning and Tony Hibbert remain sidelined with injury, but Roberto Martinez has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Swansea City. Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu is pushing for a start.

Morale-boosting win over Watford

Following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Man Utd and Sunderland, Swansea City did remarkably well to beat Watford in a match that could prove crucial for the Swans in their battle for survival. Alan Curtis’ troops moved away from bottom three, but seeing that they are just one point clear of the relegation zone, Sunday’s game against Everton is of big importance for the Welsh outfit. Alan Curtis has a number of high-profile players to choose from, but the team need to keep on improving their game if they are to secure yet another top flight survival. Andre Ayew has been in a fine form this season and the Ghana international will be the man to watch in the away team. It has to be noted that a win at Goodison Park could see Swansea City get level on points with defending champions Chelsea, who face Arsenal in the London derby on Sunday.

Alan Curtis has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Liverpool and the interim manager is likely to field the best possible side against Everton. Bafetimbi Gomis has been struggling to find his form and he should start the match from the bench.

Quick Facts

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in previous three meetings between the two teams
  • Everton are on a four-match winless run at Goodison Park
  • Toffees failed to keep a clean sheet in previous four home fixtures in the league
  • Swansea City suffered four defeats in last five away games in EPL
  • Swans are after their first ever win at Goodison Park

Everton vs Swansea City betting tip

Everton produced a fine performance in the draw with Chelsea and seeing that Roberto Martinez can finally field the best possible side, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the Toffees, who have been scoring goals for fun this season. Swansea City have been struggling on the travels of late and considering that they have never defeated Everton at Goodison Park, there is every chance the visitors will return home empty-handed.

Tip: Everton to win
