Will Grigg returns to the squad after missing March friendlies, while Chris Brunt remains on the sidelines with injury. Paddy McCourt, who has been in a poor form of late, has been omitted, but the good news is that Chris Baird and Corry Evans have recovered from their respective injuries. Peterborough defender Michael Smith has been included as well. Veteran Aaron Hughes could make his 99th international appearance if he plays some part against Belarus.

Injured: Chris Brunt (47/1)

Experienced midfielder Alexander Hleb, who currently plays for Genclerbirligi, made the squad, while there are some new faces in the Belarus team as well. Dzmitry Verkhawtsow and Stanislaw Drahun are both sidelined with injury, while Timofei Kalachev has been left out of the squad. Sergei Kornilenko is yet another absentee in the away team.

Quick Facts

  • Belarus managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five games
  • Northern Ireland are after their fourth consecutive win at home
  • The Belarusians have drawn their last three matches on the international stage
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in each of N. Ireland’s last four games
  • Northern Ireland are on a ten-game unbeaten run

Northern Ireland vs Belarus Prediction

Belarus have been impressive at the back ever since they suffered a 3-1 loss to Ukraine on 5 September, 2015 and they are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in Friday’s match against Northern Ireland. The Green and White Army conceded only one goal in last three games and, taking everything into account, a low-scoring affair is on the cards.

Betting Tip: Under 1.5 goals

Odds: 2.40 (7/5) @BetVictor
