Lyon vs Nantes prediction

Olympique Lyon will be looking to extend their impressive winning run at their Parc Olympique Lyon when they square off against Nantes on Sunday evening. Les Canaris are enjoying a very successful season and it remains to be seen if they are capable of shocking les Gones on Matchday 31.

New stadium – new energy

Olympique Lyon finished the 2014/2015 Ligue 1 campaign in second place in the standings, eight points behind Paris Saint-Germain. Les Gones, though, are currently 31 points behind les Parisiens in the Ligue 1 table and seeing that the race for the title is already over, Bruno Genesio’s men are now fully focused on booking their place in the Champions League. Lyon are one point adrift of third-placed Nice, meaning that a win over Nantes could see them regain their spot in top three. Les Gones have been producing outstanding performances at the new stadium and they are widely expected to record their fifth consecutive win at home. Alexandre Lacazette scored a brace in the 5-1 triumph over Guingamp, while finding the net in the 2-2 draw with Rennes at the weekend, meaning that he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders.

Clement Grenier is banned, while Nabil Fekir misses the match with injury. Important midfielder Mathieu Valbuena is a major doubt and he will be monitored ahead of the kick-off. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa returns from suspension.

One win in last nine away games

After playing out a goalless draw with Bastia at Stade Armand Cesari, Nantes gave fans something to cheer about at the weekend, with the team beating Angers at their Stade de la Beaujoire – Louis Fonteneau. Les Canaris returned to winning ways in the Ligue 1 and they are just three points behind the Champions League berth at the moment. Michel Der Zakarian’s troops are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but they have been struggling on the travels this season and you should have in mind that they recorded no more than one victory in previous nine away fixtures. Nantes face an uphill task in Sunday’s game against Lyon and there is every chance the visitors will adopt a defence-minded approach against les Gones. Nantes have the third best defence in the league, but preventing the in-form hosts from scoring is easier said than done.

Valentin Rongier, Adryan and Koffi Djidji are all sidelined with injury, while Lorik Cana is doubtful and he will be assessed on the match day. Sala and Sightorsson should be deployed up front in the 4-4-2 formation.

Quick Facts

  • Lyon have already scored 19 goals at the new stadium
  • Les Gones failed to keep a clean sheet in previous three home games
  • Nantes scored one goal in last three away fixtures
  • Les Canaris recorded their last win at Lyon back in 1996
  • One goal in total was scored in previous two meetings between the two teams

Lyon vs Nantes betting tip

No more than two points separate the two teams in the Ligue 1 standings, but given Les Gones’s brilliant form in the second half of the season, home win appears on the horizon. Bruno Genesio’s men have been scoring goals for fun at Parc Olympique Lyonnais and taking into account that les Canaris are not regarded as good travelers, there is every chance the visitors will return home empty-handed. In their last meeting in Lyon les Gones recorded a 1-0 win over Nantes, with Fekir scoring the winner for the hosts.

Tip: Lyon to win
