Lorient vs Monaco prediction

Having shared the spoils with the likes of Nantes and Rennes in previous two games in 2021, Lorient will be looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they host Monaco at their Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir on Sunday.

Three-match winless run

Lorient finished the 2014/2015 Ligue 1 campaign in 16th place in the standings, just six points clear of the relegation zone. Les Merlus currently occupy ninth place in the Ligue 1 standings and they did well to finish the first half of the 2015/2021 campaign in the top half of the table. Sylvain Ripoll’s men are on a three-game winless run in the league ahead of the visit of Monaco, but they shared the spoils with the likes of Nantes and Rennes in previous two league games. Lorient failed to score in last two matches at home ground and, taking everything into account, they will be happy with one point from Sunday’s game against Monaco. Abdul Majeed Waris found the net in the 2-2 draw with Rennes at the weekend and it has to be noted that he has found his scoring boots of late. However, seeing that he misses the match with injury, Benjamin Jeannot is widely expected to lead the attack for the hosts.

Majeed Waris and Benjamin Moukandjo are both sidelined with injury. Lamine Gassama should start, with Pape Paye likely to drop to the bench. Coach Sylvain Ripoll is likely to turn to 4-4-1-1 formation.

Monaco eyeing a place in the Champions League

Monaco chiefs have big ambitions for the 2015/2021 Ligue 1 campaign and, as a result, they decided to sign experienced forward Vagner Lover in the January transfer window. The Brazilian ace is widely expected to help the team book their place in the Champions League, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Les Rouges et Blancs occupy 4th place in the Ligue 1 standings ahead of the trip to Lorient, but a win over les Merlus should see the visitors climb to second place in the table. Monaco played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Gazelec Ajaccio at the weekend and you should bear in mind that the Stade Louis II outfit came from behind to share the spoils with the newcomers. Seeing that Vagner Love is not yet available for selection, Guido Carillo is likely to be deployed up front as a lone forward.

The likes of Adama Traore, Almamy Toure, Eldersson, Echiejile, Ricardo Carvalho, Ivan Cavaleiro and Vagner Love all miss the game through injury, while Lacina Traore misses the match through suspension.

Quick Facts

  • Lorient are eyeing their third consecutive clean sheet at home
  • Les Merlus scored five goals in previous three meetings with Monaco
  • Monaco outplayed Lorient in their last meeting at Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir
  • Les Rouges et Blancs suffered only one loss on the road this season
  • Leonardo Jardim’s troops scored 12 goals in previous two games in all competitions

Lorient vs Monaco betting tip

When Lorient and Monaco take on each other in Ligue 1 a high-scoring affair is guaranteed. Lorient recorded a 3-2 win over Monaco at Stade Louis II in the reverse fixture and seeing that both teams are eager to take part in European competitions next season, I am positive that both les Merlus and les Rouges et Blancs will go for a win in Sunday’s Ligue 1 game. Both sides are capable of creating a lot of clear-cut chances to score and both teams to score should be considered.

Tip: Both teams to score
