Lille vs Troyes prediction

Lille will be looking to record their first win in 2016 when they take on rock-bottom Troyes on day 22 of the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign. Troyes are on the right track to drop to the Ligue 2, but a wounded lion is the most dangerous one.

Great opportunity for Lille to return to winning ways

Following back-to-back draws with the likes of Toulouse and Nice Lille suffered a 1-0 loss to Bordeaux at the weekend. Les Dogues aim to return to winning ways in the national championship and they will not have better chance than this to record their first win of the new year. Frederic Antonetti’s men host Troyes at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday and I am positive that the hosts will go all guns blazing at the rock-bottom side. Lille’s place is in the top half of the standings and I think that the time has come for les Dogues to get back on course. Yassine Benzia is the team’s top scorer and he is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. It has to be noted that Lille are eyeing their fifth home win of the season, speaking of league matches.

Franck Beria has joined the likes of Balmont, Basa and Maignan in the recovery room, but coach Frederic Antonetti has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Troyes and he is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Bordeaux.

Ligue 2 – here we come!

Troyes impressed in the 2014/2015 Ligue 2 campaign and they tottally deserved to secure promotion to the French top flight. However, the newcomers do not seem to be competitive at this level and they are likely to drop to the French second tier. The rock-bottom side have collected no more than eight points this season and it is no surprise they are regarded as big underdogs in Saturday’s game against Lille. Anyhow, Troyes’ pride is at stake and I am positive that the visitors will fight tooth and nail in order to spoil Lille’s party at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Claude Robin’s men have been struggling on the travels this term and you should bear in mind that they are eyeing their first away win of the season. In their last away fixture in Ligue 1 Troyes suffered a 4-1 loss to Lyon.

Stephane Darbion returns from suspension, while Veskovac, N’Diaye, Rincon, Lacour and Kone are all likely to miss the match with injury. Corentin Jean impressed in the French Cup win over Concarnoise and he is likely to lead the attack for the visitors.

Quick Facts

  • Lille are undefeated in six matches at home ground
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Lille’s last five games
  • Les Dogues managed to keep three clean sheets in previous four home matches
  • Troyes conceded 13 goals in previous four away games
  • Claude Robin’s men recorded their last win at Lille back in 2005

Lille vs Troyes betting tip

Troyes have been struggling in the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign and I do not believe that they are capable of making life difficult for Lille, who are a real force to be reckoned with at home. A win over Claude Robin’s team should see the hosts climb to the top half of the table and I am tempted to put my money on the favourites on paper. In their last meeting at Stade Pierre-Mauroy (Coupe de la Ligue) Lille emerged triumphant (1-0).
