Bastia vs Lyon prediction

Olympique Lyon will be looking to return to winning ways in the Ligue 1 when they take on Bastia, who sit in the danger zone ahead of Matchday 23. Les Gones aim to rejoin the race for a place in the Champions League, meaning that this has to go down as a must-win situation for the visitors.

Bastia hit by suspensions

As expected, Bastia suffered a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their first game of the new year, but they quickly bounced back from the defeat, with the team beating Montpellier in front of home fans on day 21. However, Les Bleus went on to lose against at the weekend as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Guingamp at the weekend. Bastia sit in the danger zone in the Ligue 1 standings, just give points clear of the relegation zone. Ghislain Printant’s men will have a mountain to climb in Saturday’s game against Lyon, but it is well known that Bastia have turned their Stade Armand Cesari into a real fortress. Les Bleus are eyeing their eighth home win of the season, but seeing that they head into the match hit by suspensions, I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts.

Midfielder Seko Fofana and defender Francois Modesto both miss the game through suspension, while Florian Rapentino is sidelined with injury. The likes of Ayite and Cahuzac are banned as well.

Les Gones struggle on the travels

After suffering a 1-0 loss to Saint-Etienne in the Derby Rhonealpin, Olympique Lyon shared the spoils with Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1 derby at the weekend. Les Gones, though, need to return to winning ways as soon as possible if they are to stay in the race for a place in the Champions League, but it is more than obvious that Lyon key players have not been at the top of their games of late. Antoine Lacazette has been playing below expectations this season, with the Arsenal target scoring no more than 7 goals in the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign. Bruno Genesio’s men struggle on the travels and the fact that they are on a five-match winless run on the travels ahead of the trip to Furiani is not giving the fans a reason for optimism. Mathieu Valbuena has overcome his injury and all eyes will be on the French ace when the two sides take on each other at Stade Armand Cesari.

Bakary Kone, Gueida Fofana and Nabil Fekir are all sidelined through injury, but there are no suspended players in the away team.

Quick Facts

  • Bastia managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home games
  • Les Bleus failed to score in previous three meetings with Lyon
  • Under 2.5 goals were score in Bastia’s last five fixtures
  • Olympique Lyon are undefeated in last five meetings with Bastia
  • OM managed to keep a clean sheet in last three encounters against les Bleus

Bastia vs Lyon betting tip

Bastia are tough to beat on home soil and seeing that Lyon key players Lacazette and Valbuena have been struggling to find their scoring boots of late, there is every chance the hosts will grab something from Saturday’s Ligue 1 game. Under 2.5 goals were netted in Bastia’s previous five home games in the national championship and given Lyon’s poor away record, there is every chance we will see a low-scoring clash at Stade Armand Cesari. Les Gones recorded a 2-0 win over Bastia in the reverse fixture.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
