Angers vs Monaco prediction

Monaco will be aiming to strengthen their grip on second place in the Ligue 1 standings with a win over out-of-sorts Angers. The hosts head into the match following a heavy 5-1 loss to PSG and they certainly want to bounce back from the defeat.

Angers slipping down the standings

Angers impressed in the first half of the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign, but as expected, le SCO suffered a dip in form at the start of the new year. Stephane Moulin’s team dropped to fourth place in the standings and if the negative trend continues the team could soon drop to the bottom half of the table. Angers suffered a 5-1 loss to title holders PSG at Parc des Princes at the weekend, with the team extending their losing run in all competitions to three matches and they certainly face a difficult task in Saturday’s match against in-form Monaco. Anyhow, le SCO are unbeaten in previous four home fixtures in Ligue 1 and, taking everything into account, the hosts will be happy with one point from Saturday’s game. In their last home fixture in the national championship Angers recorded a 2-0 win over Caen.

Stephane Moulin can’t count on the likes of Auriac, Mangani, Eudeline and Dore (all injury), but there are no suspended players in the home team. Mohamed Said Benrahma is pushing for start.

Monaco at the top of their game

Monaco shared the spoils with Gazelec Ajaccio in the opening match of the second half of the season, but they have been impressive in Ligue 1 ever since. Following a 2-0 win at Lorient es Rouges et Blancs demolished Toulouse at their Stade Louis II at the weekend and cemented second place in the standings. Leonardo Jardim’s men are on the right track to book their place in the Champions League, but they can’t afford any complacency in Saturday’s game against Angers as Stephane Moulin’s troops are tough to beat at home. Guido Marcelo Carrillo came as a substitute in the 4-0 win over les Pitchouns and he is widely expected to start this time out. Monaco are eyeing their seventh away win of the season and it has to be noted that they managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their previous two games on the road. Anyhow, a win over Angers would see Leonardo Jardim’s team move one step closer to booking their place in the Champions League.

The likes of Dirar, Jeremy Toulalan, Cavaleiro, Toure, Echiejile, Sy and Traore are all out of contention with injury, but coach Leonardo Jardim has no other selection worries ahead of the match.

Quick Facts

  • Angers conceded nine goals in previous three games in all competitions
  • Le Sco are undefeated in four matches at home
  • Angers are after their first ever win over Monaco in Ligue 1
  • Monaco are on a four-match unbeaten run on the road
  • Les Rouges et Blancs have yet to suffer a loss in 2016

Angers vs Monaco betting tip

Angers do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment, but given their good home record le Sco are definitely capable of picking up at least one point from the Monaco game. Les Rouges et Blancs are high on confidence following the 4-0 win over Toulouse, but seeing that they are three points clear of Nice in the Ligue 1 standings, I believe that the visitors will be happy with one point from the Stade Jean Bouin clash.
