Lyon vs Angers 0-2 (2015/2016 Ligue 1)

Angers vs Lyon prediction

Olympique Lyon finally gave fans some cheer, with the team beating Bordeaux 3-0 in midweek. Les Gones do not want to stop now and they will certainly go for a win in Saturday’s match against Angers. However, beating the newcomers at Stade Jean Bouin is easier said than done.

Blowing hot and cold

Angers have been having their ups and downs in the second half of the season. Following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Nice and PSG (both on the road), the newcomers outclassed Monaco (3-0) in their last home fixture in Ligue 1. However, coach Stephane Moulin saw his men slip to a 2-1 loss to Reims in midweek and it is more than obvious that the team struggle on the travels. On the other hand, Angers have suffered no more than one loss at home ground this term, with the team keeping no less than nine clean sheets at their Stade Jean Bouin. Stephane Moulin’s charges sit in 4th place in the standings ahead of the visit of Lyon, but a win over les Gones could see them climb to the Champions League berth. Anyhow, seeing that the hosts have not been in a brilliant form of late, they would be more than happy with one point from Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash.

Pierrick Capelle was sent off against Reims, meaning that he will have to serve his ban against Lyon. The likes of Sissoko, Auriac, Eudeline, Dore and Ketkeophomphone are all sidelined with injury. Mohamed Said Benrahma is pushing for a start.

Morale-boosting victory over Bordeaux

Thanks to a 3-0 win triumph over les Girondins, Olympique Lyon extended their unbeaten run at their new stadium Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Les Gones produced a thrilling display in the triumph over Willy Sagnol’s men, but they do not want to stop now. Bruno Genesio’s team are eyeing a place in the Champions League and the fact that they are six points behind third-place Nice in the Ligue 1 standings is giving the fans a reason for optimism. Lyon, though, struggle on the road and it has to be noted that they conceded 10 goals in previous three away games in all competitions. Les Gones are desperate to put an end to the negative trend, but beating Angers at Stade Jean Bouin is easier said than done. Alexandre Lacazette scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Bordeaux and all eyes will be on the Arsenal target on Saturday evening. Lyon suffered a 2-0 to Angers in the reverse fixture and, no doubt, the visitors are hungry for revenge.

Rafael, Bakary Kone, Gueida Fofana and Nabil Fekir are all out of contention through injury, but coach Bruno Genesio has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Angers.

Quick Facts

  • Angers managed to keep three clean sheets in previous four home games
  • Stephane Moulin’s team are on a five-match unbeaten run at home
  • Olympique Lyon recorded their last away win in Ligue 1on 31 October
  • Les Gones failed to score in two of their last four league matches
  • Under 1.5 goals were scored in Lyon’s past two away games

Angers vs Lyon betting tip

Angers are tough to beat at home ground and they are definitely capable of making life difficult for Lyon. The hosts are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence and I would not be surprised if they manage to keep their tenth clean sheet of the season, speaking of home matches. Les Gones struggle on the road and taking into account the fact that they failed to score in the reverse fixture, I am tempted to put my money on under 2.5 goals this time out.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
