Stoke vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction

The League Cup game will be a good opportunity for Stoke City to bounce back from a disappointing result over the weekend. The Potters have enjoyed success over the past years in the competition and will be keen on making a positive result in their quarterfinal match against Sheffield Wednesday.Getting back on feet. Stoke City are coming off from the 2-0 Sunderland defeat last weekend and will be looking to make amends for their first loss in last four games. Late goals from Van Aanholt and Premier League sensation Duncan Watmore were enough for the Black Cats to inflict the fifth round to Mark Hughes’ men. The Potters have enjoyed a positive run of late with two defeats in last 11 games across competitions and the Tuesday game will be a perfect chance to boost the team’s morale ahead of the high-profile fixture against Manchester City which lies ahead in the next round of the Premier League. Stoke have become quite a force in the League Cup over the past few seasons, having reached the quarterfinals in a couple of occasions. However, this is where their path would usually end and Hughes’ charges will be keen on making a step further in the competition particularly after knocking out Chelsea in the previous round.

The Stoke manager is likely to make a couple of changes for the forthcoming fixture knowing that there is a big game coming up over the weekend. Shay Given and Marc Muniesa are the only ones on the injury list, while Ryan Shawcross is suspended for the occasion.

The sleeping giants waking up?

Sheffield Wednesday are currently occupying the eighth place in the Championship standings and are level on points with Ipswich and Birmingham who are sitting in sixth, which guarantees the Premier League promotion play-offs. New owner has made serious investments looking to awake the sleeping giants and get them back among the elite. With their attention mainly set on the league, Carlos Carvalhal’s men have had somewhat unexpectedly positive League Cup run so far. They managed to crush Arsenal 3-0 at their Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, while they have also managed to triumph at Newcastle United 1-0 before that and the Owls will be motivated to take yet another Premier League scalp. Having in mind that they have lost only one of their last 14 matches in all competitions, Carvalhal’s men have every right to feel optimistic ahead of their trip to Britannia Stadium. The Potters will have to be vary of Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri who have so far scored five and six league goals respectively, while the 22-year-old Portuguese forward Joao has also added two more in the League Cup. Joao was the one who sealed the 2-2 draw in the last round against Blackburn and Carlos Carvalhal will once again rely on his compatriot to spearhead the attack.

Sam Hutchinson is back in contention having served his suspension for the red car at the Stadium of Light and Wednesday manager will have his full crop of players at disposal for the trip to Stoke.

Stoke vs Sheffield Wednesday betting tip

Tuesday rivals have last met over three years ago and will be highly motivated to make most of their encounter. Home side are expected to win this game, but Sheffield Wednesday are tough to beat and will not go down without a fight. You should bear in mind that Stoke are playing Manchester City in the next round so the players might be already thinking about the Blues. Goals might be the best solution.
