Manchester City vs Hull prediction

After the 3-1 triumph over Southampton saw Manchester City return to the Premier League summit, they will now be hoping to edge closer to the first trophy of the season as they host Hull City in the Capital One Cup quarter-final. The Tigers have already eliminated Swansea City and Leicester City from this year’s competition, meaning they arrive at Etihad looking for another major scalp.

Silva and Bony return

Despite investing considerable funds into the playing squad over the last few years, Manchester City remain far too reliant on the likes of Aguero, Kompany, Silva and Yaya Toure, and it is not that surprising that most slip-ups this season happened while at least one or two of said players were unavailable. However, things have improved of late, with Sergio Aguero finally returning to full fitness and Fabian Delph also showing signs of promise after missing the large chunk of the campaign so far. With Kevin De Bruyne also finding his feet, Manchester City successfully ended the barren run of results that had seen them net just once in previous three fixtures and recorded a comfortable 3-1 triumph over high-flying Southampton. There were even more positives for Manuel Pellegrini as both David Silva and Wilfried Bony returned into action and they could now be back to the starting line-up when Manchester City host Hull City in the Capital One Cup quarter-final. Even with Sergio Aguero suffering an injury scare, the Chilean boss finally has some quality options in all areas of the pitch and no doubts the Citizens will be looking to start a new winning run as well as secure their place in the League Cup semis with a convincing performance against the Tigers.

Sergio Aguero is unlikely to be risked as he picked up a knock at the weekend, while Joe Hart, Samir Nasri, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala miss out as well.

Excellent run comes to an end

Rather than worrying about what might have been after getting relegated to the Championship, Hull City focused on trying to return to the elite division as quickly as possible, and they did well to keep hold of quite a few star players. While some key men did leave, the likes of Huddlestone, Livermore, Dawson, Davies, Diame and Elmohamady all stayed, with Shaun Maloney, Sam Clucas and Chuba Akpom also joining the ranks. As a result, nobody was surprised to see Steve Bruce’s charges enjoy a bright start to the season, with an 11-match unbeaten run (W7 D4) seeing them climb to the Championship summit. At the same time, the Tigers eliminated Swansea City and Leicester City to reach the League Cup last eight, although they now face a tough task against revived Manchester City. Hull City head into the game on the back of a 2-0 home loss to promotion rivals Derby County that must have acted as a blow to the confidence, but we still believe that Steve Bruce’s men will have enough in them to put on a good show at the Etihad. The likes of Abel Hernandez, Shaun Maloney, Momo Diame and Sam Clucas could prove a handful for City’s weakened back line.

The Tigers will have Robert Snodgrass and Andrew Robertson back from injury and suspension respectively, but Michael Dawson continues to miss out.

Manchester City vs Hull betting tip

Manchester City are slowly returning to the right track and they can be trusted to secure progress to the semi-finals, but don’t expect Hull City to roll over for their more illustrious opponents. The Tigers have been in very good form and we can definitely see them scoring past City’s calamitous defence.
