Valencia vs Rayo Vallecano prediction

Garry Neville will be looking to record his first ever La Liga win with Valencia when his men take on Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Mestalla on Sunday. Los Che badly need a win, but the relegation strugglers should not be underestimated.

Eight games without a win in La Liga

Valencia did remarkably well to share the spoils with Real Madrid and Barcelona under Garry Neville, but the former Manchester United man has yet to record a league win with the Estadio de Mestalla outfit. Los Che are on an eight-match winless run in La Liga and they suffered a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their last fixture in the national championship. On the other hand, Valencia outclassed Granada in the Copa del Rey two-legged tie and no doubt a 3-0 win over El Grana at Estadio Nuevo los Carmenes helped the team regain a much-needed confidence. Los Che are desperate to start a new winning run in La Liga and they will not have better chance than this to return to winning ways as they host out-of-sorts Rayo Vallecano at their Estadio de Mestalla on Sunday. Paco Alcacer came as a substitute to score in the 3-0 win at Granada and he is likely to lead the line for Garry Neville’s men this time out.

Dani Parejo returns to the starting line-up after he was rested against Granada. Jose Gaya, Sofiane Feghouli, Andre Gomes and Diego Alves all miss the match with injury.

Uphill task for out-of-form Rayo

Rayo Vallecano made a promising start to the season, but the team suffered a serious dip in form in November and they have yet to overcome the crisis. Los Vallecanos are on a nine-game winless run in all competitions and no doubt they are low on confidence ahead of the trip to Valencia. Despite the fact that Rayo suffered a 3-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in Copa del Rey last 16 return leg on Thursday, coach Paco Jemez was satisfied with the team’s performance in the Estadio Vicente Calderon clash. Anyhow, the capital club have been totally out-of-form of late and, with Valencia next, they are unlikely to escape the relegation zone. Rayo suffered a heavy 10-2 loss to Real Madrid in their last away game in 2015 and they certainly face an uphill task in Sunday’s match at Estadio de Mestalla. To make things even worse for the fans, key attacker Javi Guerra misses the match through suspension, meaning that the visitors are likely to struggle to find their scoring boots on Sunday.

Diego Llorente is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day. Antonio Amaya, Patrick Ebert and Cobeno remain in the treatment room. Chechu Dorado is pushing for a start. Javi Guerra is banned.

Quick Facts

  • Valencia are undefeated in last five matches against Rayo
  • Los Che are eyeing their first home win in the league since 31 October
  • Rayo Vallecano suffered six losses in previous seven away fixtures in La Liga
  • Los Vallecanos recorded their last win at “Mestalla” in 2012
  • The two sides played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in Copa del Rey last season

Valencia vs Rayo Vallecano betting tip

Valencia are desperate to record their first league win under Garry Neville and seeing that Rayo Vallecano head into the game with the lack of confidence, I believe that the time has come for los Che to start a new winning run in the national championship. Garry Neville can count on his key players for Sundat’s La Liga game and the hosts are likely to record a routine win over Paco Jemez’s troops.

Tip: Valencia to win
