Real Betis vs Sevilla prediction

El derbi Sevillano returns to the Primera Division after a one-year break. Los Verdiblancos will be searching for a win in order to go level with their opponents in the overall standings. On the other hand, the Sevillistas aim to double their current advantage over Betis, thus continuing their good run at Benito Villamarín. The current athmosphere around the clash gives us hope that we are in for a treat on Saturday night.

Arrest the negative trend

Real Betis’s main goal for this match is to end the negative trend on home turf against Sevilla. Pepe Mel’s charges are on an eight-game winless run at Benito Villamarín against Los Rojiblancos and it is high time they started winning. Particular motivation for the local derby is not needed, given the fact that every player knows how much a victory would mean to the fans. The offensive line will have to upgrade their performance significanlty, since they scored mere three goals in previous five La Liga fixtures. Their key attacker this term, Ruben Castro (8) needs to work extra hard in Saturday’s game if the Béticos mean to break the last line of Sevilla’s defense. Hopefully, he will have the support of Betis’s star player, Joaquin, who missed the last training session, but will probably be at Pepe Mel’s disposal. The thing that can worry the fans is the disapointing performance on home turf this season, since Real Betis boast a 1-2-4 home record with a 6-11 goal difference.

There are certain concerns whether Joaquin and Cristiano Piccini will be able to play, since both of them are having injury problems, but I doubt Pepe Mel would leave them on the bench in such an important match. The good news for the manager is that Bruno Gonzales and Dani Ceballos are returning to squad after serving their suspensions in the previous fixture.

Chance to double the advantage

Even though the Sevillistas are on a seven-game winless run in away fixtures this term, they await the forthcoming clash against Real Betis full of confidence, given their good run at Benito Villamarín in previous matches. If they manage to record a first away triumph in La Liga, Unai Emery’s men would double the advantage over their rivals in the table and increase their chances in the battle for a top-four spot. This can prove to be a difficult task for los Rojiblancos, given their lack of efficiency on away turf (4 goals in previous seven matches). The thing that can rejoice their leading scorer Kevin Gameiro (7) is Betis’s drafty defense, which concede more than one goal per game on home ground this season.

Sevilla will be without the likes of Nico Pareja, Beto and Marco Andreolli, who are all out through injury, while Vicente Iborra served his suspension and will be available for selection for the upcoming fixture.

Quick Facts

  • Sevilla are on an eight-game undefeated run at Benito Villamarín
  • Unai Emery’s lads still search for the first away win of the season
  • Los Rojiblancos kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight away matches vs Betis
  • Pepe Mel’s squad are on a five-game winless run on home turf
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in seven of previous local derbies at Benito Villamarín
  • Real Betis average less than a goal per game on home ground this term

Real Betis vs Sevilla betting tip

Real Betis conceded the majority of their goals on home turf this season, 11 of total 19. On the other hand, Sevilla’s attackers have been rather toothless in away fixtures since the start of the term and they probably won’t be as big a threat to the home side, given their current performance. This is why I believe we will not witness a high-scoring encounter.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
