Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla prediction

In-form Rayo Vallecano will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to six games when they host Sevilla at their Estadio del Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Los Sevillanos are eyeing their first away win of the season, but the clash against Paco Jemez’s troops will be anything but a walk in the park for the visitors.

Fine form

Rayo Vallecano were struggling to find their form at the start of the new year, with the team suffering a 2-1 loss to Levante in the relegation six – pointer on 9 January. Los Vallecanos suffered elimination in the Copa del Rey as well, but they have been producing much better performances in La Liga ever since. Paco Jemez’s troops are on a five-game unbeaten run ahead of the visit of Sevilla and they head into the match following a thrilling 2-2 draw with Sporting Gijon. Over the years Rayo Vallecano have turned their stadium into a real fortress and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their third consecutive triumph on home soil. Fedor found the net in the 2-2 draw with Sporting Gijon and he is likely to be deployed up front as a lone forward.

Attacker Manucho returned to training and he could play some part in Sunday’s match against Sevilla, while Jozabed has joined the likes of Cobeno, Rat, Raul Baena, Tono and Javi Guerra in the recovery room. Quini misses the match through suspension.

Difficulties on the travels

Thanks to a 3-0 win over Molde in the Europa League Sevilla extended their winning run at home to 14 games, but the team have been struggling on the travels this season. Believe it or not, los Sevillanos have yet to record a win on the road in the 2015/2016 Primera Division campaign and they will be looking to put an end to the negative trend when they square off against Rayo Vallecano in the suburbs of Madrid. Unai Emery’s men are eyeing a place in the Champions League and seeing that they are eight points behind fourth-placed Villarreal ahead of Matchday 25 this has to go down as a must-win game for the away team. Fernando Llorente scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Molde, but Kevin Gameiro, who find the net in the Europa League clash as well, is likely to lead the attack for the visitors against Rayo.

Grzegorz Krychowiak, Nico Pareja and Marco Andreolli remain in the treatment room, but coach Unai Emery has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Madrid. Full back Tremoulinas is likely to be recalled to the starting XI.

Quick Facts

  • Rayo Vallecano are on a five-game unbeaten run in La Liga
  • Los Vallecanos scored 2+ goals in each of their previous five league games
  • Sevilla are eyeing their first away win of the season
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in five of Sevilla’s last six away matches
  • Los Sevillanos are after their seventh consecutive win over Rayo

Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla betting tip

Rayo Vallecano have been in a fine form of late, but considering that the hosts head into Sunday’s game with a severely-weakened squad, I am not tempted to put my money on Paco Jemez’s troops this time out. Sevilla are brimming with confidence following the Europa League triumph and given that the Andalusian outfit are desperate to regain their place in the Champions League, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors, who are eyeing their seventh consecutive win over Rayo.

Tip: Sevilla to win
