Rayo Vallecano vs Atletico Madrid prediction

Rayo Vallecano will be looking to bounce back from a humiliating 10-2 defeat to Real Madrid when they square off against Atletico Madrid in yet another local derby on Wednesday evening. Los Rojiblancos head into the match following a 1-0 loss to Malaga, meaning that both teams are desperate to grab something from the final game of the year.

Rayo hit by suspensions

Rayo Vallecano have slipped into the bottom three on the back of one win from their previous seven league matches. Los Vallecanos are on a four-match losing run in La Liga and they head into Wednesday’s local derby against Atletico Madrid following a 10-2 loss to Real Madrid. It has to be noted, though, that both Tito and Raul Baena were sent off in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu clash and that is the main reason why Rayo suffered such a heavy defeat to los Blancos. Rayo Vallecano are desperate to put an end to the negative trend, but seeing that the hosts head into Wednesday’s game with a severely-weakened squad, I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the underdogs this time out. Anyhow, Paco Jemez’s troops will have a big fish to fry in yet another city derby.

Razvan Rat has overcome his injury and he could play some part in Wednesday’s match against Atletico Madrid. The likes of Raul Baena, Tito and Nacho Martinez are all sidelined through suspension. Lass Bangoura is fit and he is pushing for a start.

Upsetting loss to Malaga

Seeing that Atletico Madrid suffered a loss to Malaga at Estadio la Rosaleda in their last league game, Wednesday’s clash against Rayo Vallecano has to go down as a must-win game for los Rojiblancos. Diego Simeone’s men are eager to finish the year on a high note and a win over Rayo could see them regain top position in La Liga standings. Malaga put an end to Atletico’s five-game winning run in the national championship, but Diego Simeone’s troops will surely learn from mistakes they made in the Estadio la Rosaleda clash. The title-chasing side are after their sixth away win of the season and they are certainly capable of starting a new winning run in La Liga. Antoine Griezmann is enjoying yet another successful season and the opposition defenders could find it hard to contain the French attacker, who has netted eight goals in the 2015/2021 La Liga campaign to date.

Both Filipe Luis and Gabi miss the Rayo Vallecano game through suspension, whilst Wednesday’s clash comes too early for Colombian attacker Jackson Martinez. In his absences, Fernando Torres is widely expected to start the match.

Quick Facts

  • Rayo are on a four-game winless run in matches against Atletico
  • Los Vallecanos have conceded 17 goals in previous four games
  • Paco Jemez’s men are after their fourth home win of the season
  • Atletico Madrid have recorded nine wins in previous ten matches
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Atletico’s last seven away fixtures in the league
  • Los Rojiblancos have recorded five wins in previous six matches in La Liga

Rayo Vallecano vs Atletico Madrid betting tip

Rayo Vallecano are without a victory since November and with Atletico Madrid next, I do not believe that they are capable of putting an end to the negative trend. Los Rojiblancos are eager to bounce back from the shocking defeat to Malaga and seeing that the hosts are hit by suspensions ahead of the local derby, away win should be considered.

Tip: Away win
