Levante vs Sporting Gijon prediction

Rock-bottom Levante square off against 19th-placed Sporting Gijon at their Estadio Ciudad de Valencia. Both sides are desperate to secure the elite division survival and, no doubt, there will be fireworks when the two teams square off against each other in the relegation six-pointer.

Do or die?

Levante failed to impress in the 2014/2015 La Liga campaign, but they somehow managed to secure yet another survival. Los Levantinos are on the same quest this season, but they sit in the last position in the standings ahead of Matchday 31. Rubi’s men are five points behind the safe zone and they will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Deportivo La Coruna when the take on Sporting Gijon at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia on Monday. Levante defeated their local rivals Valencia in their last home fixture in La Liga, with the team recording their fifth home win of the season. Important attacker Deryverson should recover in time to face Sporting in the relegation six-pointer and he is likely to be deployed up front, alongside January signing Giuseppe Rossi. You should have in mind that the attacking duo has netted 13 goals this season.

Deyverson should be fit to play against Sporting Gijon, while David Navarro misses the match with injury. Meliana has overcome his injury, but he is unlikely to start the match.

Halilovic is back

Against all odds, Sporting Gijon recorded a come-from-behind win over Atletico Madrid in their last league match. Abelardo’s men produced probably their best performance of the season against Diego Simeone’s troops and they will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Levante in Valencia on Monday evening. Sporting Gijon, though, are not regarded as good travelers and they failed to score in previous two away fixtures in the national championship. Abelardo’s charges sit in the relegation zone ahead of the trip to Valencia, meaning that their top flight status is in great danger. The good news for the fans is that Croatian starlet Alen Halilovic returns from suspension. Paraguayan attacker Sanabria scored from the free-kick against Atletico Madrid and the opposition defenders could find it hard to contain the team’s top scorer.

Alen Halilovic returns to the starting line-up after serving his ban, but Bernardo Espinosa is definitely sidelined with injury. Vranjes is widely expected to replace fellow centre back Mere in the starting line-up. Coach Abelardo has no other injury worries ahead of the Levante game.

Quick Facts

  • Levante managed to keep two clean sheets in last three home games
  • Los Levantinos are eyeing their sixth home victory of the season
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Sporting’s last four away games
  • Sporting Gijon are after their fourth away win of the season
  • Over 2.5 goals were netted in previous three meetings between the two teams

Levante vs Sporting Gijon betting tip

La Liga survival will be at stake when Levante and Sporting Gijon take on each other at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia on Monday evening. Los Levantinos outclassed Abelardo’s team in the reverse fixture (3-0) and seeing that key attacker Deyverson and Rossi are both fit for the relegation six-pointer, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts. In their last meeting in Levante the hosts demolished Sporting 4-0.

Tip: Levante to win
