Levante vs Athletic Bilbao prediction

Rock-bottom Levante will be looking to keep their hopes of securing the top flight survival alive with a win over Athletic Bilbao at their Estadio Ciudad de Valencia. The Lions aim to cement their spot in top six and there is every chance we will see an entertaining clash in Valencia.

Heavy loss at Granada

Levante did well to come from behind and beat Espanyol in their last home fixture in La Liga, but fellow relegation-threatened side Granada proved to be a big catch for los Levantinos. Rubi’s men suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to los Granadinos at “Los Carmenes” and it is more than obvious that the rock-bottom side struggle on the travels. Levante are five points behind the safe zone in La Liga standings, meaning that they face a must-win situation in Sunday’s game against Athletic Bilbao. Coach Rubi is likely to stick to the 4-4-2 formation, with Giuseppe Rossi and Deyverson up front. Los Levantinos are eyeing their seventh home win of the season and you should have in mind that they have defeated the likes of Espanyol, Valencia, Getafe, Las Palmas, Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal on home soil this term.

Juanfran returns from suspension, but Simao Junior is banned this time out. The likes of Tono and Ivan Lopez are unlikely to recover in time to face Athletic Bilbao.

Fine performance against Atletico Madrid

Athletic Bilbao have slim chances of booking their place in the Champions League qualifiers as they are six points behind fourth-placed Villarreal ahead of Matchday 35. The Basques head into Sunday’s game against Levante following a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, but it has to be noted that the Lions failed to turn their dominance into goals in the second half of the game. Key attacker Aritz Aduriz will be out of contention until the end of the season and I believe that the will be sorely missed in the game against Levante. The good news is that Inaki Williams has overcome his injury, and the rising star is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up. Athletic Bilbao sit in 5th place in the La Liga standings and given that they are five points clear of seventh-placed Sevilla, a win over Levante would see them remain in the Europa League berth.

Sabin, Aduriz and Laporte remain in the recovery room, but coach Ernesto Valverde has no fresh injury worries ahead of the match. Inaki Williams is likely to lead the line for the visitors against Levante.

Quick Facts

  • Athletic Bilbao are after their sixth consecutive win over Levante
  • Lions managed to keep a clean sheet in last three meetings with los Levantinos
  • Levante recorded only one win in last five league games
  • Athletic Bilbao registered three wins in last four away games
  • Levante managed to keep two clean sheets in last three home matches

Levante vs Athletic Bilbao betting tip

Seeing that Athletic Bilbao will almost certainly take part in the Europa League next season, Sunday’s game at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia is of much bigger importance for the hosts, who are desperate to move away from the bottom. Los Levantinos are tough to beat at home and given that Athletic Bilbao head into the game without top scorer Aritz Aduriz, home win should be considered this time out.

Tip: Levante to win

Odds: 3.40 (12/5) @bet365
