Las Palmas vs Espanyol prediction

Las Palmas will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Real Betis when they welcome Espanyol at their Estadio de Gran Canaria. Both teams are eager to secure the top flight survival and, no doubt, there will be fireworks in Friday’s La Liga game.

Los Amarillos playing above expectations

Even though many people expected that Las Palmas would not be competitive in the Spanish top flight, los Amarillos are likely to secure the elite division survival. Quique Setien’s troops are ten points clear of the relegation zone and a win over Espanyol would definitely help them meet the goal. Ten-man Las Palmas failed to make life difficult for Real Betis in midweek, but they should now turn their focus on Friday’s game against los Periquitos. Los Amarillos are tough to beat at home and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their eighth home win of the season. Last season’s top scorer Sergio Araujo has been playing below expectations this term, but Brazilian attacker Willian Jose is certainly capable of making life difficult for the opposition back line. Willian Jose has netted eight goals for the Estadio de Gran Canaria outfit this season so far.

Aythami Artiles was sent off against Real Betis and he will have to serve his ban against Espanyol. Coach Quique Setien has no fresh injury worries, but important midfielder Mubarak Wakaso remains in the recovery room.

History repeating itself

As before, Espanyol were producing much better performances in the first half of the season. Los Periquitos are on the right track to secure yet another top flight survival, but they have been slipping down the standings week by week. Constantin Galca’s troops are on a four-match winless run in La Liga, but they are seven points clear of bottom three and, no doubt, they will be more than happy with one point from Friday’s game against Las Palmas. Espanyol recorded only one win in last 15 away games in all competitions and you should have in mind that they failed to keep a clean sheet in previous 18 away fixtures in La Liga. Marco Asensio scored a wonder goal in the 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo in midweek and he will be one of the men to watch in the home team.

The likes of Felipe Caicedo and Oscar Duarte are both sidelined with injury, while Victor Sanchez misses the match through suspension. Coach Constantin Galca has no other selection worries.

Quick Facts

  • Las Palmas scored 1+ goals in each of their last six home games in La Liga
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in five of Las Palmas’ last six home fixtures
  • Quique Setien’s troops failed to keep a clean sheet in previous three home games
  • Espanyol scored exactly one goal in four of their last five away games
  • Home team emerged triumphant in each of last five meetings between the two teams

Las Palmas vs Espanyol betting tip

Espanyol recorded a 1-0 win over Las Palmas in the reverse fixture, but seeing that los Periquitos struggle on the travels, I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors this time out. The Catalan outfit head into the game with a severely-weakened squad and, taking everything into account, away win should not be considered this time out.

Tip: Las Palmas to win
