Granada vs Malaga prediction

After sharing the spoils with their rivals in previous three league games, Granada will be looking to record a win over Malaga on Friday night. A victory over los Boquerones would see hosts move away from the relegation zone, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of putting an end to Malaga’s four-game unbeaten run in the national championship.

Granada showed character at San Mames

Following back-to-back draws with Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano at their Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, Granada played out a 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao at San Mames at the weekend, but it has to be noted that the Basques failed to score from the penalty spot in the first half of the match. Jose Gonzalez’s men are just one point clear of the relegation zone ahead of the Andalusian derby against Malaga and, no doubt, the hosts will leave their hearts on the field. Granada are on a three-game unbeaten run at home ground and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their sixth home win of the season. Adalberto Penaranda scored against Athletic Bilbao and he is likely to keep hi place up front, alongside El-Arabi.

Ruben Rochina has recovered from illness and he should play some part in Friday’s game against Malaga. Ricardo Costa is unlikely to recover in time to face Malaga, while Nigerian striker Isaac Success returns from suspension.

Four-game unbeaten run

Malaga played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Deportivo La Coruna at Estadio Municipal de Riazor on 5 March and following back-to-back wins over the likes of Sporting Gijon and Real Betis the Andalusian outfit played out a 1-1 draw with Espanyol at their Estadio La Rosaleda at the weekend. Javi Gracia’s troops are on a four-game unbeaten run in Primera Division and they will be looking to move a little closer to the European places with a win over Granada in Friday’s local derby. Duje Cop has been producing fine performances this season and the Croatian attacker, who found the net in the 1-1 draw with Espanyol, is likely to lead the line for the hosts against los Periquitos. Malaga are after their first ever win at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes and it remains to be seen if Javi Gracia’s men are capable of making history on Friday evening.

Carlos Kameni remains in the recovery, but coach Javi Gracia has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Granada. Charles misses the match through suspension, with January signing Uche likely to step up.

Quick Facts

  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in four of last five meetings between Granada and Malaga
  • Granada failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last home fixtures in La Liga
  • Malaga are on a three-game unbeaten run on the road
  • Los Boquerones are eyeing their first ever win at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Malaga’s last three league fixtures

Granada vs Malaga betting tip

Granada are tough to beat at home and given the importance of the match for Jose Gonzalez’s men, I believe that los Granadinos will grab something from Friday’s game. Malaga are on a four-game unbeaten run at the moment and seeing that they have been impressive at the back of late, I would not be surprised if the two teams play out a low-scoring draw in the Andalusian derby.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.70 (7/10) @Unibet
