Getafe vs Athletic Bilbao prediction

Getafe are awaiting Athletic Bilbao in Round 22 of the Primera Division. The Deep Blues want to get back to winning ways in this home fixture. Los Leones, on the other hand, hope for continuation of their winning streak over Coliseum Alfonso Perez outfit.

Time to end the negative trend?

After a dramatic defeat against Granada in the previous round (3-2), which ended their four-game undefeated run, Getafe will host the Lions, hoping for a positive result. Los Azulones won their last game against the Basques at home ground almost three years ago. Since then, the Deep Blues lost five in a row, with mere two scored goals in the spell. This season, el Geta are performing rather well at Coliseum Afonso Perez, losing just one of their last ten fixtures (W6 D3). Fran Escriba’s men are keeping things tight in the back in home matches, with just 7 conceded goals since the beginning of the season, a mere two in last five encounters. The offensive line is rather productive, they failed to deliver in just two of their eleven home fixtures. Eleven different players netted at least a goal for Getafe this term, but Pablo Sarabia (5), and Alvaro Vasquez (4) present the greatest danger for the opposition goalkeeper. Bearing in mind the current home form of Coliseum Alfonso Perez outfit, it is quite possible they are capable of ending the negative trend against Athletic.

Fran Escriba has almost his entire team at disposal. The only injured player is Alvaro Medran, who suffered a fibula fracture and will be out for several months.

Athletic hope to continue the undefeated streak

The Lions are still licking their wounds after three consecutive defeats against Barcelona both in the cup and the league and are in desperate need of a win. Ernesto Valverde’s charges have established complete domination over Getafe in the last three years, and will try to continue the flawless run. Much will depend on Aritz Aduriz, the absolute leader of the team, with 14 goals and 4 assists to his name so far. He will have the full support from the youngster Inaki Williams, who is turning into a top flight player and two of them will try to break the lines in los Azulones’ defense. Still, bear in mind that the Basques are rather inefficient when playing on their travels lately, with just two goals in previous four fixtures. In their last two matches, the Basques suffered back-to-back defeats in which they failed to deliver a single goal. It seems this is the right time for a wake-up call if they plan to keep pace with the teams battling for European qualifications.

Athletic Bilbao will be without the likes of Ander Iturraspe (hamstring), Ibai Gomez (knee), and Raul Garcia (knee), who are all in the recovery room.

Quick Facts

  • Getafe conceded just two goals in last five home fixtures
  • Fran Escriba’s men are on a five-game losing streak against Getafe
  • Los Azulones scored a goal per game on average in their last seven matches at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez
  • Los Leones failed to score in two previous away fixtures
  • The teams scored under 2.5 goals on average in eight of their last ten clashes in Getafe

Getafe vs Athletic Bilbao betting tip

Getafe are looking for revenge and are quite capable of delivering in the upcoming clash, but it is a well known fact that the lion is most dangerous when wounded. I would not dear to pick a winner in this fixture, since the game could go either way. I expect a close game with a lot of battle and not so much goals.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.7 (7/10) @888sport
