Espanyol vs Celta Vigo prediction

After suffering back-to-back losses to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Levante, Espanyol will be looking to return to winning ways in La Liga when they take on Celta Vigo in Barcelona. Os Celeste failed to impress against Real Betis and it remains to be seen if they are capable of giving fans some cheer this time out.

Things getting serious

Espanyol have been slipping down the standings week by week. The Catalan outfit sit in 15th place in the La Liga standings ahead of the visit of Celta Vigo and they are just seven points clear of the relegation zone. Los Periquitos suffered back-to-back defeats to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Levante in previous two league games and they are desperate to grab something from Tuesday’s clash against Celta Vigo. Espanyol do not want to get into any more trouble and I am positive that the Catalans will fight tooth and nail in the RCSE Stadium clash. Hernan Perez scored on his return from suspension against Levante and the Paraguayan attacker will be one of the men to watch in the home team. It has to be noted that los Periquitos are eyeing their eighth home win of the season.

Hernan Perez and Ruben Duarte are both fit, meaning that coach Consantin Galca has a full squad to choose from, with the exception of defender Anaitz Arbilla, who remains in the recovery room.

Poor performance against Real Betis

Despite being regarded as favourites to win Saturday’s game against Real Betis, Celta Vigo played out a 1-1 draw with los Beticos at their Estadio de Balaidos. Eduardo Berizzo’s troops were playing below expectations against Juan Merino’s team and they should be more than happy with one point from the game. Celta, though, still sit in the Europa League berth and they will be looking to strengthen their grip on a place in top six with a victory over Espanyol in Catalonia. Celta Vigo are on a five-game unbeaten run in the league and seeing that under 2.5 goals were scored in each of Celta’s last five league fixtures, no doubt, the visitors will rely on their solid defence in Tuesday’s game against Espanyol. Nolito did not produce a good performance against Real Betis, but the opposition defenders should find it hard to contain the pacey winger.

January signing Beauvue suffered a serious injury against Real Betis and he has joined the likes of Hugo Mallo and Andreu Fontas in the recovery room. There are no suspended players in the away team.

Quick Facts

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in each of Celta’s last five league games
  • Under 1.5 goals were netted in three of last four meetings between the two teams
  • Celta recorded their last win at Espanyol back in 2003
  • Os Celeste managed to keep a clean sheet in last two away games
  • Espanyol failed to keep a clean sheet in previous four home fixtures

Espanyol vs Celta Vigo betting tip

Espanyol are desperate to secure yet another top flight survival, but the match against Celta Vigo, who are eyeing a place in the Europa League, will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Seeing that both teams will be happy with one point from Tuesday’s La Liga clash, I am tempted to put my money on draw this time out.
