Eibar vs Villarreal prediction

Eibar and Villarreal, the two out form teams, take on each other at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua on day 31 of the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. The Yellow Submarine aim to retain their spot in top four, but beating los Armeros in the Basque Country is easier said than done.

Six-game winless run

Eibar were more than fortunate not to drop to Segunda Division at the end of the last season as Elche were excluded from the Spanish top flight. However, los Armeros obviously belong to the elite division as they have been producing fine performances in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. Fran Escriba’s men are on the right track to secure yet another Primera Division survival as they are ten points clear of the relegation zone ahead of the visit of Villarreal, but the team’s main goal is to finish the season in the top half of the table. Eibar, though, have been struggling to find their best form of late, with the team recording their last win in the league on 20 February, 2016 against Levante. Los Armeros are eager to put an end to their six-match winless run in La Liga, but beating Villarreal is easier said than done.

Adrian and Ivan Ramis are both sidelined through suspension, while the likes of Jaime, Borja Ekiza and Jospi Radosevic all miss the Villarreal game with injury. Kike is yet another absentee in the home team.

Dip in form

Villarreal have been impressive in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. The Yellows are on the right track to book their place in the Champions League, but after dropping 10 points in previous four league fixtures, their chances of securing a spot in the elite competition are slimmer. Marcelino’s men are on a four-game winless run in La Liga, but they showed character in a 2-2 draw with title holders Barcelona in their last league match. The Yellow Submarine came from two goals behind to share the spoils with Luis Enrique’s troops, but it has to be noted that Barca defender Jeremy Mathieu committed two big errors which helped the Camp El Madrigal outfit grab something from the match. Anyhow, Villarreal retained their spot in top four and they will be looking to strengthen their grip on fourth position with a victory over Eibar at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.

Jonathan dos Santos is sidelined with injury, while Mario misses the game through suspension, while the likes of Samuel, Jaume Costa and Mateo Musacchio are all rated doubtful for Sunday’s La Liga game.

Quick Facts

  • Eibar are on a six-game winless run in the league
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in four of Eibar’s last five games
  • Villarreal are on a five-match winless run on the road
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in previous three meetings between the two teams
  • In their last meeting at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua they shared the spoils (1-1)

Eibar vs Villarreal betting tip

When the two sides take on each other in La Liga a low-scoring game is always on the cards. Both sides have been struggling in the national championship of late and I would not be surprised if one goal separates the two teams in the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua clash on Sunday evening.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.55 (6/11) @BetVictor
