Deportivo La Coruna vs Valencia prediction

Deportivo La Coruna and Valencia faced each other on the last day of the 2012/2013 La Liga campaign. Back then Los Che had defeated los Brancoazuis at Estadio Municipal de Riazor and, as a result, the Galician side dropped to Segunda Division. Given the rivalry between the two teams there is every chance we will see an interesting clash when they take on each other on day 21 of the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign.

Poor run of results

Deportivo La Coruna have been struggling to find their form in 2016. Los Brancoazuis have yet to record a win in the new year and coach Victor Sanchez saw his men suffer a shocking defeat to Mirandes in the Copa del Rey last 16. The Galician outfit sit in the top half of the table ahead of Matchday 21, but they have been slipping down the standings week by week. Deportivo are desperate to secure yet another top flight survival and they will be looking to stop the run of six games without a victory when they square off against Valencia at Estadio Municipal de Riazor on Sunday. Lucas Perez is undisputedly the team’s key player and the 27-year-old attacker, who has netted 12 goals this season, is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against Valencia.

Alejandro Arribas returns from suspension, but important midfielder Fede Cartabia misses the Valencia game with injury. The likes of Fabri and Borges remain sidelined with injury as well.

Neville under big pressure

Valencia badly needed a win against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, but they failed to get one. Garry Neville is still eyeing his first league win with los Che and, no doubt, the English tactician feels pressure ahead of the trip to Galicia. Valencia played out a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, first leg, in midweek, with Paco Alcacer scoring the equalizing goal for the Estadio de Mestalla outfit. However, the Spanish attacker suffered an ankle injury during the training and he could be out of contention for one month. In his absence Alvaro Negredo will lead the line for the visitors against Deportivo and you should have in mind that he has netted seven goals in all competitions this season. It is well known that Valencia struggle on the travels and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their only third away win of the season.

Sofiane Feghouli and Enzo Perez have both recovered from their respective injuries, while Diego Alves and Javi Fuego remain in the treatment room. Aforementioned attacker Paco Alcacer is out of contention as well.

Quick Facts

  • Deportivo suffered back-to-back defeats to Villarreal and Mirandes in previous two home games
  • Los Brancoazuis are on a six-match winless run ahead of the visit of Valencia
  • Valencia are after their third away win of the season
  • Los Che recorded their last league win on 7 November against Celta Vigo
  • Valencia failed to keep a clean sheet in previous eight away games in La Liga

Deportivo La Coruna vs Valencia betting tip

Valencia have been playing below expectations this season and despite the fact that Garry Neville has a number of top-class players to choose from, I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on los Che, who have been struggling on the travels in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. Los Brancoazuis are desperate to secure the top flight survival and I believe that they are capable of putting an end to their six-game winless run in all competitions.

Tip: Deportivo La Coruna to win
