MK Dons vs Chelsea prediction

Chelsea will be aiming to build on the 1-0 win over Arsenal in the London derby when they take on Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Cup last 32. The Blues are favourites on paper to win Sunday’s game, but the Championship side should not be underestimated.

First tough task for MK Dons

Milton Keynes Dons played out a 2-2 draw with Northampton Town on 9 January and, as a result, with Nicky Maynard securing a replay for the Championship side. The Dons outclassed Northampton in the replay (3-0) and they set up a meeting with Chelsea in the FA Cup last 32. The Championship side face an uphill task in Sunday’s game against Guus Hiddink’s troops, but one thing is for sure: the hosts are likely to leave their hearts on the field in order to claim a major scalp in the FA Cup. Karl Robinson’s men suffered a 3-1 loss to Bolton in their last game in the Championship and it has to be noted that they are just two points clear of the relegation zone. The team’s Championship status is in danger and I would not be surprised if coach Karl Robinson decides to rest his key players for the game against Cardiff City. In last season’s edition of the FA Cup Milton Keynes Dons were eliminated by Chesterfield.

The likes of Matthew Upson and Carl Baker both miss the game with injury, but coach Karl Robinson has no other injury concerns ahead of the FA Cup clash. Georgio Rasulo is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up.

Great win at Emirates Stadium

Chelsea were struggling to find their best form under Jose Mourinho in the first half of the season, but the capital club have been producing fine performances in all competitions ever since Guus Hiddink took over the reins. The Blues showed character in the 3-3 draw with Everton as they came from two goals behind to share the spoils with the Goodison Park outfit and they put icing on the cake in the Emirates Stadium clash against Arsenal. Chelsea did well to beat the ten-man Gunners and they will be looking to build on the triumph when they take on MK Dons in Sunday’s FA Cup game. The Blues are eyeing their 8th FA Cup trophy and it has to be noted that they won their last title in 2002. Diego Costa has yet to find his best form, but the Spain international should lead the attack for the visitors against MK Dons. Off course, if he recovers in time to face the Championship side.

Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both doubtful, whilst Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao are both sidelined with injury. The likes of Baba, Loftus-Cheek and Begovic are all pushing for a start.

Quick Facts

  • MK Dons recorded four wins in previous five home games
  • The Dons managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home fixtures
  • Chelsea are after their fourth consecutive clean sheet on the road
  • The Blues defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the 2011/2012 FA Cup final
  • Chelsea are unbeaten under new coach Guus Hiddink

MK Dons vs Chelsea betting tip

Chelsea are brimming with confidence following the win in the London derby and despite the fact that Guus Hiddink is likely to mix the squad against the Championship side, there is every chance the Blues will make it to the FA Cup last 16. The Premier League outfit aim to save the season by winning the FA Cup trophy and seeing that the Dons are fully focused on the securing the Championship survival, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors.
