Liverpool vs Bordeaux prediction

Having demolished Manchester City (4-1) at the Etihad this weekend, Liverpool are looking for a second consecutive win in the UEFA Europa League, where they await Les Girondins. Even though the Reds won only once in four group matches, a triumph or a goalless draw would secure them a place in the last 32. Willy Sagnol’s men are in a desperate need of a first win in this stage, which would give them the opportunity to get back in the race for the knockout stage.

“The Normal One” is turning things around

After a miserable start of the season and the dismissal of Brendan Rogers, Liverpool FC appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new manager. Even though “The Normal One” did not record impressive results at the very beginning, it seems that his style of play is starting to show. Since his arrival, the Reds managed to score four wins, three draws and only one defeat. The coach who always smiles managed to restore the self-belief in the team, his man-management skills turned the Reds into a side capable of defeating teams like Chelsea and City on the road. But the results at Anfield are not as good, since Klopp won only one out of four games on home soil.

Liverpool won four of their last five games in all competitions, managed to score eight goals in their last three league fixtures, but doing the same in Europe has proved a harder task, since they scored only four goals in as many matches. Nevertheless, a goal per game in the Europa League guarantees us a certain goal at Merseyside. Given the current form of Jurgen Klopp’s men and the home ground advantage, it is highly unlikely that the Reds will miss a chance to secure the place in the knockout stage, since they managed to do so in both of their previous European campaigns. Additionally, they won ten games in their previous thirteen home fixtures against French sides.

Mamadou Sakho, Danny Ings and Jordan Henderson are injured and will not be available for the match, while Philippe Coutinho’s appearance is in question, since he suffered an injury in the last game.

Looking for a first away win

This has not been a successful season so far for Les Girondins, sitting 13th in the Ligue 1, with only four wins in fourteen games in the domestic competition. The situation is similar in the Europa League as well, with three draws and one home defeat in four previous fixtures. However, it seems that Les marine et blanc managed to improve their form a little with a three-game undefeated streak on all fronts, including a 3-1 win against Monaco. Looking at their results, Willy Sagnol’s team present themselves as draw specialists, with six ties in the Ligue 1 and three draws in the Europa League. Six of those ties were recorded in away fixtures, which gives them hope that they could make a somewhat positive result in this game. But they are still looking for an away win this season.

Concerning the offensive line, Bordeaux are struggling to score in this year’s Europa League, hitting only two goals so far. Bearing in mind the fact that Le club au scapulaire needs a win in order to keep the hope of advancing to the knockout stage alive, the match against the Reds comes at the worst possible moment, as Les Girondins have won only one of their previous eleven fixtures against English clubs, and lost all fixtures on English soil. On their previous appearance in this competition, Willy Sagnol’s boys failed to progress past the group stage.

Gregory Sertic is injured, whilst Wahbi Khazri is suspended, and they will certainly miss the match. Maurice-Belay’s appearance is in doubt.

Liverpool vs Bordeaux betting tip

Given the fact that Bordeaux lost all of their five games in England without scoring, and taking under consideration that the Reds will do everything it takes to secure a place in the final 32 and to continue the momentum, I am positive that the home team will take all three points in this fixture.
