Head to head record

Augsburg vs Liverpool 0-0 (2015/2016 Europa League)

Liverpool vs Augsburg prediction

Having shared the spoils with Augsburg at WWK Arena, Liverpool will have to go for a win in the return leg if they are to book their place in the Europa League last 16. The Reds were not into action at the weekend and they can’t wait for Thursday’s clash to start.

A win for the next round

Liverpool have been having their ups and downs ever since Jurgen Klupp took over the reins. For example, the Reds dropped a two-goal advantage in the draw against Sunderland, but they did well to crush Aston Villa 6-0 at Villa Park a week later. The Anfield outfit are still playing on three fronts in the 2015/2016 campaign and they will surely give 100% to beat Augsburg and make it to the Europa League last 16. Liverpool played out a goalless draw with the German side in the first leg, but the Premier League team are definitely capable of scoring in the return leg at Anfield. The Reds have been looking much sharper in front of goal ever since Daniel Sturridge recovered from his long-term injury and no doubt the home team will adopt an attack-minded approach in Thursday’s game against Augsburg. In their previous home fixture in the Europa League Liverpool recorded a 2-1 win over Bordeaux and you should know that the Reds suffered their last defeat in front of home fans on 4 October, 2012 (Udinese).

The likes of Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel, Adam Lallana and Joseph Gomez all miss the game with injury. Daniel Sturridge should keep his place up front, while Lucas Leiva is pushing for a start.

Important win in Bundesliga

Thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hannover Augsburg moved away from the danger zone in the Bundesliga standings, but they will have to be at their sharpest in the remainder of the season if they are to secure yet another top flight survival. On the other hand, the German outfit managed to hold Liverpool to a goalless draw in the Europa League last 32, first leg, but they need to score in Thursday’s clash at Anfield if they are to keep their hopes of securing their place in the next round alive. However, the visitors will have a mountain to climb in the second leg and only one thing is for sure; the Germans will leave their hearts on the field in order to record a good result in the Anfield clash. As always, a man to watch in the away team will be Raul Bobadilla, who has netted six goals in the process so far.

The likes of Baier, Feulner and Framberger are all sidelined through injury, but Trochowski, Hong Jeon-Ho and Raul Bobadilla should recover in time to face Liverpool. Moravek and Schuster are both doubtful.

Quick Facts

  • Liverpool are on a seven-game unbeaten run at home ground in EL
  • Reds scored 1+ goals at Anfield each of their previous ten games in EL
  • Augsburg managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two games
  • The Bundesliga side are eyeing their third consecutive away win in EL
  • Liverpool had 14 shots on goal in the first leg, while taking 7 corner kicks

Liverpool vs Augsburg betting tip

Liverpool are superior to Augsburg and despite the fact that the hosts head into the match with a severely-weakened squad, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on the Reds, who impressed in the 6-0 triumph over Aston Villa. Jurgen Klopp’s men are eager to win a trophy in the 2015/2016 campaign and, taking everything into account, home win is on the cards.
