Fiorentina vs Tottenham prediction

Two sides meet again for the second year straight in the same competition and Fiorentina will be keen on repeating the last year’s success against Tottenham in this season’s last 32 encounter of Europa League.

Home wins, away draws

Without a defeat in their last five matches, Fiorentina have won the three home games, including the highly-anticipated clash against Inter last time out. Viola have emerged victorious from the matchup against the fellow title contenders from the beginning of the Serie A season courtesy of goals from Valero and Babacar, who struck in the second half to over-turn the first-half deficit. Inter took the lead through Marcelo Brozovic, but have once again showcased inability to close the deal, much to the pleasing of Fiorentina fans. Sitting third in the standings of Serie A, Paulo Sousa’s troops turn their attention towards the UEFA Europa League knockout stages. Viola are eager to repeat the last season’s feat in the same stage of the competition when they eliminated Spurs 3-1 on aggregate, but will be cautious as Tottenham are entirely different team this term. The hosts will hope their key performers this season Nikola Kalinic and Josip Ilicic will live up to the expectations and lead the way against English opposition. The two players have shared 23 goals between them and have been the major attacking force to Paulo Sousa’s team.

Host will have no selection worries ahead of the Tottenham game and Paulo Sousa will be happy to report all of his players are injury-free.

Unstoppable Spurs

Spurs’ defeat to Leicester City in January has been the only set-back this year and Pochettino’s men have gone on a seven-match winning run in all competitions. Five of those victories have been achieved way from home, which is just another testament to Tottenham’s strength and consistency this season. The most notable result has definitely been the 2-1 win over Manchester City during the weekend, which has seen Spurs climb second spot in the Premier League standings, just two points adrift of the league leaders Leicester City. Tottenham opened the scorings through Kane’s penalty which Manchester City had plenty to talk about, after the game. Citizens levelled the score thanks to Iheanacho after 75 minutes, but Eriksen made sure Tottenham remained on top of things with his goal, seven minutes before the final whistle. Pochettino’s troops have been impressive throughout the entire season and their form has been delightful so far. Spurs are playing attacking football, but they are also a tightly packed unit with solid defences. Harry Kane is once again enjoying his football, while Dele Alli is another Tottenham player who has been grabbing the headlines this season and both of them will prove to be a handful for Fioreninta players.

Clinton N’Jie continue to miss out due to a knee injury, while Tottenham are making their trip to Italiy without Ryan Mason and Jan Verthonghen as well.

Quick Facts

  • Fiorentina have won seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions
  • Tottenham are on a five-match winning run on the road
  • Spurs have conceded only 20 goals in the Premier League so far
  • Viola lost only six Serie A games this term
  • There have been under 2.5 in both competitive matches between the two sides

Fiorentina vs Tottenham betting tip

Current domestic forms often play little or no part when it comes to international duels. Tottenham have set their focus on the Premier League and could be thinking about just how to get back to England uneaten and without injuries. I predict a low-scoring affair between Fiorentina and Tottenham.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
