Sassuolo vs Cagliari prediction

A place in the Coppa Italia last 16 will be at stake when Sassuolo and Cagliari take on each other at Stadio Citta del Tricolore on Thursday evening. Both sides have been in a fine form of late and a lively contest is on the cards.

Neroverdi unbeaten at home ground

Having shared the spoils with Fiorentina in Monday’s Serie A match, Sassuolo will be looking to get their job done in Coppa Italia when they take on Cagliari in front of home fans. The Neroverdi are unbeaten at home ground this season and it has to be noted that they are capable of making life difficult for top table sides when playing at their Stadio Citta del Tricolore. Last season’s key player Simone Zaza is no longer part of the team, but coach Eusebio Di Francesco can count on the likes of Sansone, Floro Flores and Berardi, who are likely to pose a big threat for Cagliari defenders in Thursday’s Italian Cup clash. Last season Sassuolo were beaten by Milan in the Coppa Italia last 16 and it has to be noted that they kicked off the 2015/2021 campaign with a routine 2-0 victory over Modena. Neroverdi have recorded three wins in previous four league matches at home ground.

Striker Berardi returns to contention after missing the Fiorentina game through suspension, while Luca Antei and Emanuele Terranova are both sidelined with injury.

Cagliari eyeing quick return to Serie A

Cagliari finished the 2014/2015 Serie A campaign in 18th position in the standings and, as a result, they dropped to the Serie B. The Rossoblu are on a quest to secure quick return to the Italian top flight and, as things stand now, they are likely to meet the goal. Massimo Rastelli’s troops sit in top position in the Serie B standings ahead of Thursday’s cup match against Sassuolo and it has to be noted that the team have recorded four wins in previous five league matches. Cagliari, though, were totally outclassed by Brescia at the weekend (0-4) and, no doubt, they will give 100% to bounce back from the heavy defeat. A number of first-team regulars left the club in the summer transfer window, but coach Massimo Rastelli still has a decent squad to choose from. A man to watch in the away team will be Diego Farias, who has netted six goals in the 2015/2021 Serie B campaign to date.

Marco Capuano has yet to overcome his injury, but Massimo Rastelli has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Reggio Emilia. Aforementioned attacker Diego Farias is widely expected to return to the starting line-up after he came as a substitute in the 4-0 loss to Brescia.

Sassuolo vs Cagliari betting tip

As I have already mentioned, Sassuolo have yet to suffer a loss at home ground this season, but seeing that Cagliari are enjoying a very successful season as well, I would not be surprised If we see a close encounter in Reggio Emilia. Both sides are capable of scoring a lot of goals and given their attacking potentials, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on both teams to score. In previous four meetings between the two teams no less than 11 goals in total have been netted.

Tip: Both teams to score

Odds: 1.80 (4/5) at bet365
