Napoli vs Inter prediction

Napoli host Inter at their Stadio San Paolo in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, first leg. The Partenopei are on a five-game winning run in all competitions, but Tuesday’s game against the Nerazzurri will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts.

Partenopei impressive at home ground

Napoli have been impressive in Serie A ever since Maurizio Sarri took over the reins. The Partenopei are leading the chase for Scudetto, but they are just two points clear of defending champions Juventus. The Neapolitans are still playing on three fronts and they have big ambitions for both Coppa Italia and Europa League campaigns. Maurizio Sarri’s men have been impressive at their Stadio San Paolo this term and it has to be noted that they recorded a routine 3-0 win over Verona in the Coppa del Rey last 16. Gonzalo Higuain has been scoring goals for fun this season and Inter defenders should find it hard to contain the former Real Madrid forward on Tuesday evening. Napoli are after their sixth consecutive win in all competitions and they want to move one step closer to booking their second Coppa Italia trophy since 2014.

Maurizio Sarri has a full squad to choose from and he is likely to field a very strong starting XI against Inter. Belgium international Dries Mertens is likely to return to the starting line-up.

Dip in form

Inter were more than unfortunate not to grab something from the game against Sassuolo, with the team missing a number of clear-cut chances to score in the loss to the Neroverdi. Roberto Mancini’s men played out a 1-1 draw with Atalanta at the weekend and, as a result, they dropped to third place in the Serie A standings. Inter do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment and they certainly face an uphill task in Tuesday’s clash against Napoli. The Nerazzurri eliminated Cagliari in the Italian Cup last 16, but beating Napoli at Stadio San Paolo is easier said than done. Roberto Mancini’s troops were beaten by Partenopei in the 2014/2015 Coppa Italia and no doubt the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza outfit are hungry for revenge. Manuel Icardi is the team’s top scorer and the Argentine forward will be the man to watch in the away side in Tuesday’s Italian Cup game. Icardi has netted eight goals in the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign to date.

Felipe Melo returns from suspension and with no fresh injuries to report, Roberto Mancini should field the best possible side against Napoli. Croatian attacker Ivan Perisic is pushing for a start.

Quick Facts

  • Napoli scored 1+ goals in previous four meetings with Inter
  • Partenopei are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home
  • Maurizio Sarri’s men scored 13 goals in previous five home fixtures
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Inter’s last four games
  • Nerazzurri managed to keep two clean sheets in previous three away matches

Napoli vs Inter betting tip

Over the years Napoli have turned their Stadio San Paolo into a real fortress. The Partenopei have been producing scintillating displays at home ground this term and they are widely expected to extend their winning run to six matches when they face Inter in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, first leg. The Nerazzurri have been struggling to find their form of late and seeing that they were beaten by Napoli at Stadio San Paolo in the Serie A earlier this season, I am tempted to back the hosts to emerge triumphant in the first leg.

Tip: Napoli to win
