Napoli vs Verona prediction

Italian football fans will be treated with a midweek fun as the Coppa Italia round of 16 matches is bringing excitement in the absence of the European football. One of the games will see red-hot Napoli take on struggling Verona as they attempt to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Are Napoli slowing down?

A loss to Bologna and a draw against AS Roma with a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Legia sandwiched in between for Napoli could be comprehended as the early warning signs for the team which is enjoying a fantastic season in all competitions. The Partenopei have secured the knock-out stage of the UEFA Europa League last week and are to play Villarreal in one of the most exciting match-ups in the round of 32. Fresh from their Legia win, Maurizio Sarri’s men played host to AS Roma in a derby match which was ended in the goalless stalemate. Winless in two Serie A games, Napoli have misses their chances to close the gap behind the leaders Inter and to even grab the top spot in the table. No hearts are broken as manager Sarri was pleased with his team’s spirit and dedication, so Napoli will be heading into their Coppa Italia duel feeling positive and motivated to record a win that would see them progress to the quarter-finals of the competition. Partenopei are still in contention in all fronts and will be eager to record a positive result in the competition in order to make the current season as successful as they can. The attacking potential of Sarri’s squad is enough of a guarantee for an exciting match at San Paolo on Sunday.

Manolo Gabbiadini is the only injured player in Sarri’s team, while Partenopei will also be without Jonathan de Guzman and Camilo Zuniga, who are both out due to their respective suspensions.

No improvement in sight for Verona

The only two wins in last twenty games for Hellas Verona were recorded in the Coppa Italia. Triumphs over Foggia and Pavia respectively have earned the team their place in the round of 16, but Delneri’s men are now faced with a much tougher task. The experienced manager took over the reins after the club sacked Andrea Mandrolini at the end of November, but has so far failed to make any significant impact. Verona travel to Napoli on the wings of their only positive result in last ten games, having managed to scrape a point on the road against AC Milan. Luca Toni’s penalty proved decisive for a huge point against Mihajlovic’s team, but it made no difference in the standings as Hellas Verona remain marooned, hitting rock-bottom with only seven points after 16 rounds and without a single win throughout the campaign. The return of their key man Luca Toni could prove vital in their attempt to turn the fortunes around, but it will be very difficult as playing in Coppa Italia at this moment only represents an unnecessary distraction for the side struggling to keep the head above water.

Luigi Delneri is faced with a huge selection problem as he will not be able to call upon Mohamed Fares, Romulo, Matuzalem, Michelangelo Albertazzi and Samuel Souprayen, who are all having injury problems. In addition, goalkeeper Rafael is unavailable through suspension.
