Sevilla vs Mirandes prediction

Sevilla will be aiming to extend their winning run to five games when they take on Mirandes in Copa del Rey quarter-finals, first leg, on Thursday. Los Sevillanos have been impressive at home ground this season, but the Segunda B side should not be underestimated.

“Pizjuan” – the fortress

Sevilla have been having their ups and downs this season. Unai Emery’s men have been producing terrific displays at their Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this term, but they have been struggling on the road. Los Sevillanos have yet to record an away win in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign, but, on the other hand, they are eyeing their tenth consecutive win at home. Unai Emery’s team head into Thursday’s Copa del Rey game against Mirandes following a 2-1 win over Malaga in the Andalusian derby and the hosts are determined to extend their winning run to five games in all competitions. However, seeing that Mirandes eliminated Deportivo La Coruna in the last 16, Sevilla will have to be at the top of their game if they are to make it to the next round. Unai Emery’s men are eyeing their sixth Copa del Rey trophy and it has to be noted that the Andalusian side lifted their last Spanish Cup trophy back in 2010. Experienced attacker Fernando Llorente is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against Mirandes and the opposition defenders should have him at bay.

Vicente Iborra was sent off against Malaga, but he is available for selection. Nico Pareja and Marco Andreolli remain in the recovery room, but coach Unai Emery has no fresh injury worries. Ciro Immobile joined Torino on loan.

Los Rojillos aim to claim yet another major scalp

Mirandes will be aiming to extend their giant-killing run when they take on Sevilla in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Los Rojillos have eliminated the likes of Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish Cup so far and they are high on confidence ahead of the trip to Andalusia. The team’s performance in the 3-0 win at Deportivo was brilliant, but beating Sevilla on the road is easier said than done. Coach Carlos Terrazas saw his men slip to a heavy 4-0 loss to Leganes at the weekend and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recovering from the defeat before they face Sevilla in Copa del Rey. Dani Provencio scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna at “Riazor” and the 28-year-old midfielder will be one of the men to watch in the away side on Thursday evening.

Coach Carlos Terrazas has no fresh injury worries and he is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Deportivo La Coruna. Junior Lago, though, is pushing for a start.

Quick Facts

  • The two sides meet for the first time ever in Copa del Rey
  • Sevilla are after their tenth consecutive home win
  • Los Sevillanos managed to keep a clean sheet in previous four home games in Copa del Rey
  • Mirandes are on a three-match winning run on the road in Spanish Cup
  • Los Rojillos managed to keep only one clean sheet in previous five games

Sevilla vs Mirandes betting tip

Sevilla are favourites on paper to make it to the Spanish Cup semi-finals and seeing that Unai Emery’s men are unlikely to book their place in the Champions League, I am positive that they will give their best to save the season by winning the Copa del Rey. Mirandes did eliminate Deportivo and Malaga, but given Sevilla’s impressive home record, I do not believe that the Segunda Division team, who head into the match following the 4-0 loss to Leganes, are capable of making a miracle at “Pizjuan”.
