Celta Vigo vs Almeria prediction

Celta Vigo will be looking to defend their big lead in the Copa del Rey tie against Almeria when the two sides take on each other at Estadio de Balaidos on Thursday. The visitors have nothing to lose in the return leg and they will surely go all guns blazing at Os Celeste.

Fine form

Celta Vigo kicked off the new la Liga campaign in great manner, but, as expected, the team then suffered a dip in form. However, Os Celeste have been producing fine performances in the national championship of late and they will be looking to build on a 1-0 win over Espanyol when they take on Almeria in Thursday’s Copa del Rey match. The Galician side are after their third consecutive win at home ground and, no doubt, they are with one foot in the Spanish Cup last 16. Eduardo Berizzo’s men outplayed Almeria (3-1) in the first leg, but it is well known that Celta Vigo always go for a win. The match against Espanyol was marked by Nolito’s injury and the team’s top scorer will surely be sorely missed in days to come. In his absence Chilean winger Orellana will be the man to watch in the home team.

Nolito has joined Fontas, Radoja and Sergi Gomez in the recovery room, while Pablo Hernandez is available for selection despite being sent off against Espanyol.

Ten-game winless run

Almeria experienced all sorts of problems in the 2014/2015 Primera Division campaign and, as a result, they dropped to Segunda Division. To make things even worse for the fans, the Andalusian side continue to struggle in the Spanish second tier and they are sitting at the rock bottom in the Segunda Division standings after 17 rounds. The team head into Thursday’s Copa del Rey match against Celta Vigo with the lack of confidence and I do not believe that they are capable of putting an end to their ten-game winless run in all competitions. Seeing that the team’s main goal is to secure the Segunda Division survival, I would not be surprised if coach Joan Carillo decides to rest his key players for Sunday’s league match against Real Oviedo. It is well known that Almeria struggle on the travels, but you should know that they have not recorded a win in last 15 away matches in all competitions.

Coach Joan Carillo is likely to mix the squad against Celta Vigo, meaning that the likes of Hadzic, Herrera, Puertas, Fatau and Soriano should start the match. Chuli is likely to be rested for the Oviedo game.

Quick Facts

  • Celta Vigo are on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions
  • Os Celeste have conceded nine goals in previous four fixtures on home soil
  • Celta have recorded four wins in previous five Copa del Rey matches at home
  • Almeria failed to find the net in three of their previous four away fixtures
  • Joan Carillo’s men recorded their last away win back in February
  • Almeria have conceded nine goals in previous four meetings with Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo vs Almeria betting tip

Celta Vigo are superior to Almeria and despite the fact that coach Eduardo Berizzo is going to mix the squad against the Segunda B side, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the la Liga team, who have been in a fine form of late. Almeria struggle on the travels and the out-of-sorts visitors are unlikely to spoil Celta’s party at Balaidos.
