Preston vs Burnley prediction

Promotion-chasing Burnley will be aiming to get their revenge on Preston for a 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture when the two teams take on each other at Deepdale Stadium on Friday evening. The Clarets are eager to retain their spot in top two, while the hosts have little to play for in the season finale.

Four-game winless run

Preston failed to book their place in the Championship play-offs and, as a result, they have little to play for in the season finale. The Lilywhites are on a four-game winless run in the Championship and the lack of motivation might prove to be the team’s biggest problem in Friday’s game against Burnley. Preston shared the spoils with the likes of Milton Keynes Dons and Birmingham City in previous two league games and, no doubt, coach Simon Grayson will stick to his rotation policy in the upcoming fixtures. The Lilywhites aim to finish the season in the top half of the table, but they will have a mountain to climb in Friday’s game against promotion-chasing Burnley. Preston have been struggling at the back in the second half of the season and you should bear in mind that they failed to keep a clean sheet in previous eight league matches.

Stevie May and Chris Humphrey remain in the recovery room, while Calum Woods remains a doubt. Coach Simon Grayson has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Burnley.

Must-win game

Following back-to-back draws with the likes of Leeds United and Birmingham City, Burnley played out a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in the Championship derby. The Clarets remained in second place in the standings and they are determined to return to the Premier League. Friday’s clash against the Lilywhites seems to be crucial for Sean Dyche’s charges and I am positive that they will go all guns blazing on the hosts in Friday’s game at Deepdale Stadium. Burnley recorded four wins in last five away games in the Championship and the fact that they scored 2+ goals in each of those encounters is giving the fans a reason for optimism ahead of the Preston game. Andre Gray has netted 22 goals in the 2015/2016 Championship campaign and he will be the man to watch in the away side in the Deepdale Stadium clash. Sam Vokes missed a lot of matches through injury last season, but he has been playing an important role in Sean Dyche’s team this term and I believe that the duo will pose a big threat for the opposition defenders.

Lukas Jutkiewicz remains in the recovery room, while Sam Vokes and Joey Barton should both recover in time to face Preston at Deepdale Stadium.

Quick Facts

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in last two meetings between the two teams
  • Preston are on a four-game winless run at home
  • Burnley recorded four wins in last five away games in the Championship
  • Clarets scored 10 goals in last four away matches
  • Burnley suffered their last defeat in the league on 26 December, 2015

Preston vs Burnley betting tip

Burnley have no other choice but to go all-out attack in Friday’s game against Preston. The Clarets are eager to secure automatic promotion to the English top flight and given Preston’s poor form, away win appears on the horizon. Taking everything into account, Burnley are likely to get their revenge on Preston for the 2-0 loss at Turf Moor.

Tip: Burnley to win
