Brighton vs Reading prediction

Following back-to-back draws against Preston and Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton will be looking to start a new winning run in the Championship when they host Reading at their American Express Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Four consecutive clean sheets

Brighton demolished Leeds United in their last game in February, but they have been struggling in the Championship ever since. The Seagulls failed to score in previous two league matches and they are eager to put an end to their goalless run. On the other hand, Chris Hughton’s troops have been impressive at the back of late, with the team keeping four consecutive clean sheets in the league. Brighton will certainly rely on their rock-solid defence in Tuesday’s game against Reading, but seeing that a win would see the hosts regain their spot in top two, I am positive that the Seagulls will go for a victory this time out. Tomer Hemed scored a brace in the 4-0 win over Leeds United and the Israeli attacker is likely to prove a handful for the opposition back line. Brighton are eyeing their 13th home win of the season, but the Royals should not be written off just yet.

Solly March is definitely out of contention with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Coach Chris Hughton is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Sheffield Wednesday.

Difficulties on the travels

Reading recorded a thrilling 4-3 win over Charlton Athletic in London on 27 February, but after sharing the spoils with yet another capital club Fulham on Matchday 35, the Royals suffered a 3-1 loss to Huddersfield Town at the weekend. Brian McDermott’s charges are not having a season to remember as they sit in 15th place in the standings ahead of the trip to Brighton. Reading have slim chances of securing their place in the play-offs and they will be happy should they happen to secure the Championship survival. The Royals are not regarded as good travelers and given that they conceded eight goals in previous three away fixtures, it is no surprise the visitors are regarded as big underdogs in Tuesday’s Championship clash. Reading recorded their last win at Brighton four years ago and the away team definitely want history to repeat itself. Brian McDermott’s men head into the match following a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-finals, meaning that tired legs might prove to be a big problem for the visitors.

Jake Cooper is banned, but coach Brian McDermott has no injury worries ahead of the Brighton game. The English tactician could make some changes to the team that faced Palace in the FA Cup.

Quick Facts

  • Reading suffered nine defeats in previous 11 away fixtures
  • Brighton are eyeing their fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league
  • Over 2.5 goals were netted in Reading’s last three away matches in the Championship
  • Seagulls suffered only one loss in previous ten games in the league
  • Both teams scored in each of their last four meetings in the Championship

Brighton vs Reading betting tip

Brighton are a real force to be reckoned with at home and given that Reading struggle on the travels, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the Seagulls this time out. The Royals lost a lot of energy in the FA Cup game against Crystal Palace and, taking everything into account, they are likely to return home empty-handed.

Tip: Brighton to win
