Olympique Lyon v Valencia prediction

Tuesday’s match at Stade de Gerland sees Olympique Lyon take on Valencia in the Champions League Group H. Los Che aim to make amends for a 3-2 loss to Zenit, but they certainly face an uphill task in the match against the LIgue 1 outfit.

Important match for les Gones

Olympique Marseille kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Gent. The club chiefs have big ambitions for the 2015/2021 Champions League campaign and with the likes of Valbuena and Lacazette in the squad, the Ligue 1 side are surely capable of recording a good result in the elite competition this term. Les Gones head into Tuesday’s match against Valencia following a 3-1 loss to Bordeaux in the national championship and Hubert Fournier’s men certainly want to make amends for the defeat. Olympique Lyon are regarded as good hosts and they are widely expected to grab something from the Valencia game. Mathieu Valbuena, who was hanged by Olympique Marseille’s fans two weeks ago, will be the man to watch in the home side. Lacazette missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Gent, but he is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against los Che.

The likes of Nabil Fekir, Clement Grenier, Gueida Fofana and Rafael are definitely sidelined with injury. Bakary Kone and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa should recover in time to face Valencia.

Unlucky defeat to Zenit

Despite producing a good display in their Champions League opener against Zenit, Valencia were eventually beaten by the Russian outfit at their Estadio de Mestalla (2-3). Los Che aim to return to winning ways and they will surely take Tuesday’s match against Olympique Lyon as the clash against les Gones could well decide which team will make it to the knockout stages of the elite competition. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men did well to beat Granada at the weekend and it has to be noted that the Portuguese boss adopted an attack-minded approach against los Granadinos, with Paco Alcacer and Alvaro Negredo up front. The coach should switch to the 4-2-3-1 formation for the Olympique Lyon clash and there is every chance Alcacer will be deployed up front as a lone striker. Los Che are not regarded as good travelers, but they are surely capable of grabbing something from the Lyon game.

Diego Alves, Jose Gaya and Andre Gomes are all sidelined with injury, but Australian goalkeeper Mat Ryan returns to contention. Javi Fuego is likely to return to the starting line-up after he started the match against Granada from the bench.

Olympique Lyon vs Valencia betting tip

Both Olympique Lyon and Valencia are capable of creating a number of clear-cut chances to score. Both sides will surely go for a win in Tuesday’s clash at Stade de Gerland and I would not be surprised if we see a high-scoring affair in France. In their last meeting in Lyon los Che recorded a 2-1 win over les Gones and, taking everything into account, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on both teams to score.

Tip: Both teams to score
