Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City prediction
Manchester City will be looking to put an end to their three-game losing run in all competitions when they square off against Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of the Champions League last 16. The Citizens aim to get their job done in the first leg, but the Ukrainians should not be written off just yet.
First competitive match since December
Thanks to a 1-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv Dynamo Kiev clinched second place in Group G. The Ukrainian outfit proved their worth in the Champions League group stages, but they will have a mountain to climb in the two-legged tie against Manchester City. Sergiy Rebrov’s men have not been in action since 9 December and that is the main reason why home win should not be considered. Dynamo Kiev have yet to suffer a loss at home ground in the 2015/2016 Champions League campaign and you should know that they managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home matches. Anyhow, preventing the star-studded Premier League side from scoring is easier said than done. Andriy Yarmolenko is undisputedly the team’s key player and all eyes will be on the Arsenal target when the two teams face each other at NSK Olimpijsk’kyj on Wednesday evening.
Antunes is sidelined through suspension, while Morozyuk misses the Manchester City game with injury. Rybka is doubtful and he will be monitored ahead of the kick-off. Junior Moraes is likely to lead the line for the hosts.
Manchester City have been totally out of form of late and many people believe that Tottenham Hotspur ruined their title hopes. The Citizens occupy fourth place in the Premier League standings after 26 rounds and, as things stand now, they are unlikely to regain the domestic trophy. On the other hand, Manuel Pellegrini, who will be replaced by Pep Guardiola in the summer, and his men have big ambitions for the Champions League knockout stages and, no doubt, the Argentine tactician is going to field the best possible side against Dynamo Kiev in Wednesday’s clash. Manuel Pellegrini has a number of selection worries ahead of the trip to Ukraine, but you should have in mind that he rested his key players in the 5-1 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup. Taking everything into account, Champions League will be the team’s priority in the remainder of the season. As always, a man to watch in the away team will be Kun Aguero, who has netted one goal in the process so far.
Bakary Sagna and Wilfried Bony are both rated doubtful, while Fabian Delph, Kevin de Bruyne, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri are all out of contention with injury.
- Dynamo Kiev suffered only one loss in previous five matches at home in the CL
- Under 2.5 goals were scored in four of Dynamo’s last five game in the competition
- Manchester City recorded two wins in previous three away games in the CL
- Citizens are on a three-game losing run in all competitions
- Manuel Pellegrini’s team conceded ten goals in last three matches
Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City betting tip
The lack of competitive matches might prove to be a big problem for Dynamo Kiev in Wednesday’s Champions League showdown against Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini rested his first-team regulars for the Champions League clash and given that the Citizens are fully focused on recording a good result in the elite competition, I am tempted to put my money on the away side. In their last meeting in European competitions Manchester City emerged triumphant.
Tip: Manchester City to win
