Augsburg vs Bayern Munich prediction

Augsburg will be looking to record their first win of the new year when they host title holders Bayern Munich at their WWK Arena on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s men dropped two points in a goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen and they are eager to return to winning ways in Bundesliga.

Fuggerstadter firing blanks

Following back-to-back goalless draws against Hertha and Eintracht Frankfurt, Augsburg suffered a 2-1 loss to Ingolstadt at the weekend. Die Fuggerstadter have been slipping down the standings week by week and, with Bayern Munich next, they are unlikely to put an end to their three-match winless run in Bundesliga on Sunday. Markus Weinzierl’s men are just two points clear of bottom three and it has to be noted that the team face a tough fixture list. Following the match against Bayern Munich, Augsburg will face Liverpool in the Europa League, meaning that coach Markus Weinzierl should stick to the rotation policy in days to come. Die Fuggerstadter recorded only one win in previous seven home games and it is no surprise they are regarded as big underdogs in Sunday’s game against the defending champions. A man to watch in the home team will be Raul Bobadilla.

The likes of Baier and Callsen-Bracker both miss the match with injury, but coach Markus Weinzierl has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Bayern Munich.

“Slim” advantage over Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich failed to impress in a goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, but seeing that Hertha held Borussia Dortmund to a goalless draw in Berlin, the mighty Bavarians remained eight points clear of second-placed Millionaires in the Bundesliga standings. Pep Guardiola will not be in charge of the team next season, but he will certainly give his best to win yet another Bundesliga trophy with the Allianz-Arena outfit. Bayern Munich recorded a routine 3-0 win over Bochum in the German Cup in midweek, with Robert Lewandowski scoring yet another goal in the 2015/2016 campaign. The Polish attacker is enjoying the best season of his career and he is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. Considering that FCB are “just” eight points clear of Borussia Dortmund in the standings, I am positive that the reigning champions will take Sunday’s match against Augsburg very seriously. Bayern Munich are eyeing their eighth away win of the season.

Mehdi Benatia, Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez are all sidelined with injury, while Xabi Alonso misses the trip to Augsburg through suspension. Thomas Muller is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Augsburg failed to score in two of their previous three home games
  • Fuggerstadter did well to shock Bayern in their last meeting at Allianz-Arena
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in four of Bayern Munich’s last five league matches
  • Bavarians are eyeing their seventh clean sheet of the season on the road
  • Pep Guardiola’s men are on a five-match unbeaten run in Bundesliga

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich betting tip

Augsburg do not suit Bayern Munich. The Bavarians were more than fortunate to beat die Fuggerstadter in the reverse fixture, but seeing that the hosts have been firing on all cylinders of late, there is every chance the visitors will keep their seventh clean sheet of the season. Bayern Munich defeated Bochum to nil and seeing that they played out the goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, a low-scoring match appears on the horizon.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
